Solar Science

In the Solar Science curriculum, you will have the opportunity to learn about the star at the center of our solar system, the Sun! Everything we know about the Sun began with the act of observing it. From mysterious events on Earth to sunspots and storms, the Solar Science curriculum will lead you through ways in which you can safely observe the sun and learn more about its past, present, and even future.

Rocketry

Our Rocketry curriculum is arguably the most hands-on out of all of our curricula. Not only will you learn how to build a small rocket, you will also learn how to maximize the space inside the rocket for something like a payload, which you will build and program to gather data while it is in the sky. The Rocketry curriculum also includes very important safety information, for example when soldering and using batteries, but also when you need to safely launch your rocket! Our curriculum will take you through each important step with pictures and helpful tips to guide the way.

Astronomy Anywhere

The Astronomy Anywhere curriculum teaches you how to use SSU’s GORT (Gamma-ray Optical Robotic Telescope), an off-campus observatory used by SSU students and students across the globe. This curriculum will guide you through the practice of astronomy, from thinking about our position (and relative size!) here on Earth, to learning how to measure the brightness of stars. There are also activities that go along with each session that enable you to practice real astronomy just like professional astronomers!
